GirlEng WC at UCT Open Day
The University of Cape Town held their annual Open Day on Saturday the 13th of April. Open Day serves as an opportunity for high school students to gather more information about studying at UCT. The GirlEng team was present and could not be missed as they were geared up in bright pink hard hats.
It was great to have a large crowd of students and parents in and around the Engineering buildings, many of whom showed interest towards attending the upcoming Information Session. Learners were drawn with curiosity towards the pink GirlEng stand at which they were welcomed by the team and invited to the Information Session. The learners seemed particularly inspired by the enthusiasm the GirlEng team shows towards engineering.
Many learners signed up for the Information Session at Open Day and let us know that they would be inviting their peers to join them. Upon finding out that there are engineering students amongst the GirlEng team, learners immediately had many questions to ask. The differences between the engineering disciplines and the academic requirements for studying engineering at a university were some of the questions raised by the students. Others wanted to simply know what it is like studying engineering. All of these topics will be thoroughly covered at the Information Session on the 4th of May at UCT.
This positive response has driven the team more to ensure that the Information Session will be an enriching experience.
